In the beginning... Think of it in another way. "At the start of creation..." or even "Once upon a time..." There was a Creator - God. 

Why it matters? (Why do you think it matters?)
Because your faith is not about facts. This is a story where what matters is that there is a Creator that creates good things. This is not a science paper. It is the beginning of a mythical poem. What does it mean to start you faith with a poetical story of how humans understand a creative god?
